While fire is the cause of many mishaps and disasters, burns and bruises both external and internal, successful attempts have been made to conquer the ill effects of the ghastly fire. Two of them are fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers. Both of these use inert gases and other chemical agents to extinguish the wild fires and today, with the help of automatic fire extinguishers and suppression systems, a quick action of a rising fire can be easily enacted!

The automatic fire suppression systems are built up of agents, agent storage containers, agent release valves, fire detectors, dispersion nozzles as well as agent delivery pipings. They also include fire detection setups such as wiring control panel and actuation signaling.

How do these suppression systems work?

There are essentially four ways how the agents work in fire suppression systems. A combination of these methods is usually termed as Fire Tetrahedron. These methods include the reduction or isolation of fuel, decrement in heat, the isolation or reduction of oxygen and last but not the least, the inhibition of a chain reaction of the agents. In the first method, no specific agents are made use of while to reduce heat, the agents HFC and Novec are utilized. Then, to reduce the oxygen levels, carbon dioxide, aragonite and inergen are used; the last method uses all the above mentioned agents along with FE, MH, FM, Halon, Freon, NAF and Triodide.

When we talk of automatic fire extinguishers, they are pretty much self-reliant like the smoke detectors and sprinklers. They feature an in-built sensor that responds to room temperature in certain vicinity. When the temperature reaches the set alarming levels, the heat-sensitive bulb blasts and the fire extinguisher releases either the powder or gas which in turn helps preventing the fire from extending its tentacles. The biggest advantage of these automatic devices is that it safeguards your beloved and belongings even when there is no one there in the vicinity to reach the site.

Application of these fire extinguishers and suppression systems is up to you: you could either do a total flooding or a local flooding. For a total flooding, the system is applied to a three-dimensional closed area that’s when the agent is concentrated in order to reach a certain percentage of the agent in air; and when that volume is reached, the fire is adequately put off! You could also opt for a local flooding which practices the application of extinguishing agents directly to the fire.

These automatic fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers when complemented with other safety measures pertaining to fire such as fireproofing with the help of an intumescent material or the fire alarm would help control the spread and damage of the savage fires to a large extent. For when it comes to protecting your valuable lives and possession, one can never be completely careful. These automatic devices simply help us live a pre-planned and stress-free life for long!
